Verification of Permanent Settlement of 4 Mammal Species on the Territory of B&H

The project’s goal was to collect data on species with very limited information in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This data will support the development of the Mammal Atlas of Europe and Bosnia and Herzegovina. To address this, a list of specific mammal species was created, including raccoon (Procyon lotor), raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides), mouflon (Ovis musimon), red deer (Cervus elaphus), and fallow deer (Dama dama). Data collection involved the transect method, recording signs of species presence such as footprints, faeces, and hairs along surveyed paths. Photographs of evidence and coordinates were taken on-site. Camera traps were also deployed along the transects. The team interviewed hunters and foresters to assess species presence in various locations. Raccoon, mouflon, fallow deer, and red deer were confirmed, while raccoon dog presence was indicated in surveys but not verified through fieldwork.

Project: Verification of permanent settlement (free-ranging) and reproduction of raccoon (Procyon lotor), raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides), mouflon (Ovis musimon), red deer (Cervus elaphus) and fallow deer (Dama dama) on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina
