In 2025, EID implemented the youth-led activity “Be the Voice of Those Without a Voice” as part of the peer education program “PROBA – Peer Nonviolence Ambassador Training Program” One EID youth member, who completed certified training on nonviolence, communication, delivered a peer-to-peer educational session for high school students at “Gemit Apeiron” School Centre in Banja Luka.
The session brought together 40 students (aged 15–18), promoting open dialogue about violence, discrimination, social responsibility, and the role of youth in building peaceful communities. The activity combined a structured presentation, guided discussion, and a workshop where students explored real-life situations and practiced nonviolent responses.
What changed as a result of the intervention?
The intervention significantly improved students’ understanding of nonviolent communication, the importance of peer solidarity, and the harmful consequences of normalising violence. Many participants reported that they had never previously engaged in structured conversations on these topics, nor reflected on how their actions contribute to the safety and well-being of others.
Students demonstrated greater willingness to speak openly about sensitive issues, including bullying, peer pressure, and exclusion. Participants expressed increased empathy, recognising how violence affects vulnerable groups who “do not have a voice.” Youth gained confidence in using dialogue rather than confrontation, a core goal of the peer nonviolence program. The atmosphere shifted from passive listening to active involvement — students shared experiences, asked questions, and collectively discussed solutions. The session strengthened trust within the group by showing students that their concerns are valid and that they have support from both peers and educators.
