Local Climate Awareness Campaign “Breathe Clean”

In September 2025, EID implemented the Local Climate Awareness Campaign – “Breathe Clean” at the “Gemit Apeiron” Secondary School Centre in Banja Luka. The initiative brought together nearly 70 high school students (aged 15–18) and teachers to strengthen knowledge, dialogue, and youth engagement on air quality, public health, and sustainable behaviour. Through expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, and educational materials, the campaign directly helped build trust among youth, educators, and environmental professionals.

What changed as a result of the intervention?

The campaign significantly increased participants’ understanding of air pollution, its health effects, and personal responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. Students expressed newfound motivation to adopt healthier and more sustainable habits. One student stated: “I never realised how much my daily choices affect the air we breathe – now I want to do more to help.”

Teachers reported that students showed greater interest in environmental topics afterwards and began proposing small school-based actions such as reducing waste, cycling to school, and monitoring local air quality.

The event also opened a safe space for dialogue. Many students were initially hesitant to speak, but by the end of the campaign, they actively engaged, asked questions, and shared perspectives. This shift demonstrated strengthened confidence, improved communication, and increased trust between youth and experts. The campaign validated their concerns and made them feel heard.

Together, let’s raise awareness and take action – because air is invisible, but you can feel it!
